From Farm to Porch

From Farm to Porch

In trying to make the best purchasing decisions to feed our family I will occasionally stumble upon that perfect thing, that thing I really love and want to come back for again and again. Maybe it’s the amazing quality of the product and the unmatched flavor, or maybe it’s the education wrapped up in what they do, always spreading knowledge of their intricate process. Or maybe it’s because what they offer, I can believe in, support and stand with because it’s a product that makes a difference, or maybe it’s the relationship developing telling me, “Man, I just really like these guys!”

Or perhaps I just like coffee.

So to get to the point, we found something that we want to share with you and make available for purchase through our website. Yes, we believe in this product that much.   It’s the best coffee, roasted by the best people, and mindfully sourced with the environment and lives of the farmers at the top of the priority list.

So I’m betting you’ve probably heard of Fair Trade, right? If not, here’s the jist: Fair Trade means that the price of the product and the process by which it gets to your table ensures that the farmers and workers are being paid fairly, that the environment is cared for, and that the community is being invested in. Now doesn’t that sound like a feel-good cup of coffee? Well, at Porch Culture Coffee, these guys are doing one even better: Direct Trade. They actually know, with a hug and a handshake, the farmers that grow much of their coffee (much like you can hug and shake the hand of YOUR farmer at the potluck next month!). I will actually have the pleasure of visiting one of their farm partners next spring when I take an agricultural tour of the Dominican Republic (I’ll bring back a full report)!  You can read all about Porch Culture’s coffee farm partners, their mission, and their products at their website.

“Everything comes from somewhere.  We want you to know where your coffee comes from and that everyone involved, from farm to porch, was considered.  We are all neighbors after all.”

So here’s how this works.  Porch Culture Coffee is available to add to your weekly delivery when you login to your account and click on our Web Store.

You can purchase items from the web store as often as you like, and have them added to your delivery for the next week.  We are selling their coffee in 16oz bags (a full pound! Many craft roasters do smaller 12oz bags), and only in whole-bean so you can experience the fresh grind flavor when you brew your cup.  The web store will close down for shopping 48 hours before deliveries (on Tuesday evening) so we can get on the phone with Porch Culture and give them enough time to get your coffee roasted.

They will freshly roast your coffee on Wednesday morning, and we will deliver it with your CSA share, to your pick-up site on Thursday. Yes, it really will be that fresh!

We are looking forward to sending you this delicious coffee, from one of our neighbors. Enjoy!
