2014 Summer share #7

Share Notes:

• Edamame—A Red Moon Farm first!  Steam for just 3-4 minutes, sprinkle with sea salt or smoked salt, and dip in a little soy sauce. Wow! So good.
• Eggplant—Fairytale varietal. These are our favorite variety, and they are wonderful for so many applications. Grilled, roasted, sauteed, stewed in a curry…
• Tomatoes—Orange Blossom varietal. A lovely and unique offering.
• Cherry Tomatoes—Sungolds. We’ll keep these babies comin’ as long as possible. Aren’t they amazing?!
• Cucumbers—Try these with a little jalapeno and onion in a super simple batch of fridge pickles.
• Potatoes—a small harvest of lovely pink skinned, white flesh Viking Red potatoes.
• Basil—Genovese. Trim the stems and place in a glass of cold water to perk back up. There’s plenty for pesto this week. Try this Pesto Potato Salad and be sure to use up your basil and potatoes! The recipe calls for kale but it will be marvelous with basil.
• Hot Peppers—Jalapenos for the large shares, and Serranos for the small shares. Watch out! They all pack a lot of heat this year!

The Fairytale eggplant along with the edamame, our beefsteak tomatoes and sungold cherry tomatoes, have recently been featured at Juls restaurant in Tyler.  You can also find amazing dishes featuring our produce at Texas Spice located inside the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas. The Texas Spice kitchen is actually a member of our CSA and receives large amounts of produce from us every week throughout the season. This week they are using Red Moon Farm eggplant, bell peppers, cucumbers, sungold tomatoes, and lovely orange tomatoes. If you haven’t enjoyed Red Moon Farm’s produce prepared by a professional chef, you just gotta! Head out for a nice dinner at Texas Spice in Dallas or Juls in Tyler and make sure to ask for the dishes using Red Moon Farm produce! They will hook you up!
