Share notes:

  • Turnips—Scarlet Queen.  Yes, those rose colored roots are turnips! We’ve been so excited to finally send you this amazing variety. Please let us know what you think of them! The greens are super tender and delicious, too.
  •  Onions—Small shares received sweet yellow onions and the Large shares received both yellow and red onions.  Lots more will be coming your way! These young spring onions will not store, so keep them in the fridge and use them this week.
  • Cabbage—Small shares received small Gonzales cabbages, Large shares received savoy leaf cabbages.  Mmm, how about a turnip, cabbage and apple slaw. Yum!
  • Kale—A new tender planting of our Red Russian kale is ready!  This is your first week to receive a harvest off these young tender plants so the kale will be extra amazing this week. It will be great for a raw kale salad this week before the leaves toughen up in the heat.
  • Snow peas—Large shares received these sweet beauties this week. Next week we hope to give them to the small shares.
  • Pac Choi—Have you tried out the wonderful raw pac choi recipe yet?
  • Mustard Mix— This is a new planting, but the hot conditions still make for a less tender plant. Some of the young leaves will still be great in a salad and any tougher leaves can be cooked with your kale or turnip greens, or chopped fine and tossed into scrambled eggs or a quiche. We used some in an amazing mother’s day fritatta! Save a few pretty sprigs to garnish the edge of a plate.

We received a ton of rain this week, which was so great. The rain did splash mud up onto the plants, though, which made this week a dirtier harvest than normal. Make sure to wash your vegetables well before eating.

We’d love to know what fun ways you’re using your produce, drop us a note to let us know what culinary adventures you’re taking!  And don’t forget to head on over to the Kitchen blog to see what we’re cookin’ up!
